CHESTER WELCOMES HEYFIELD TIMBER MILL SALE

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed the announcement that local jobs have been secured under the sale of Gunns’ Heyfield Timber Mill.
Mr Chester said the purchase by Australian Sustainable Hardwoods (ASH) which is owned by the Hermal Group and equity partners, would provide certainty and he looked forward to working with the company in the long-term interests of the hardwood timber industry.
"This is great news for Heyfield and the broader Gippsland region," Mr Chester said.

ST BRENDAN’S STUDENTS RECEIVE ACHIEVEMENT CERTIFICATES

A select group of St Brendan’s Primary School students received Achievement Certificates from Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester at a special assembly last week.
Mr Chester visited the school to present the certificates to high achieving students and the 2012 leadership group which consists of captains Layla Witham and Nic Bulmer and vice captains Patrick Garbutt and Anna Mornane. Prior to the assembly Mr Chester also met with the school’s Student Action Team to discuss a range of local and national issues.
“The students asked a range of questions across a broad range of subjects,” Mr Chester said.

FEW POSITIVES IN BUDGET FOR GIPPSLAND

The Federal Budget has fallen flat for Gippslanders according to The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester.
Mr Chester said Treasurer Wayne Swan had shuffled spending around to create an artificial surplus which had failed to inspire regional communities.
“The Treasurer is saying ‘trust me’, there will be a surplus but after four massive deficits totalling more than $170 billion, I don’t think many people believe him,” Mr Chester said.
